Certification

In an effort of several years, people of different patent information user communities cooperated to come to a certification model for patent information professionals. The fruit of this work can be found at http://www.qpip.org.

One of the subjects in this trajectory is a 'prior experience recognition' module (grandfather clause), which entitles you to become a certified qpip (qualified patent information professional) without having to pass an exam. Requests to have your prior experience recognised and become a certified 'qpip' without having to pass an exam can be submitted during a limited timeframe.
